For the Cake:
1. To prepare these delicious cupcakes, preheat your oven to 350F and line a cupcake tin with paper liners.
2. In a bowl, sift together the dry ingredients, including sugar.
3. In a separate small bowl, whisk together milk, vanilla, eggs, and sour cream. For extra richness, you can add 1/2 cup of melted butter, but it’s optional.
4. Slowly add the dry mixture to the milk/sour cream mixture while the mixer is running on low, and mix for a minute or less.
5. Scoop about three tablespoons of the batter into each cupcake liner.
6. Bake at 350F for 15-20 minutes or until the center is set.
For the Frosting:
1. Start by creaming the butter in a mixing bowl. Gradually add sugar and mix on high speed until well combined. Then, add the milk one tablespoon at a time until you reach the desired consistency for the frosting.
2. Next, take a separate bowl and add about half of the frosting along with green food coloring. Mix the two until they are well combined.
For the Assembly:
1. First, cover the cupcake in white frosting, creating texture to resemble snow.
2. Next, spread a thin layer of green buttercream over the surface of the cone to help the dollops adhere and ensure full coverage.
3. Optionally, you can fill the ice cream cone with candy before placing it on the cupcake.
4. Using a number 30 tip, pipe star-shaped dollops in a cascading pattern from the bottom to the top of the cone.
5. Finally, dust confectioners’ sugar over the cupcake and it’s ready to be served!

Tips for making Christmas tree cupcakes
- To enhance the chocolate flavor, I recommend adding half a teaspoon of instant espresso. For a more festive touch, you could also add half a teaspoon of peppermint oil.
- For a fun surprise, consider adding candy inside the cone before placing it on the cupcake. Be creative with your fillings, but avoid coal!
- To create a realistic snowy effect on the trees, I suggest generously dusting them with powdered sugar.
